Booking for Two: Anniversaries, Proposals, and When to Tell Us

Hotels are good at occasions when they know one is happening. What to share, what to leave to us, and how to avoid the version that feels staged.

Tell Us, and Tell Us Early

The single largest factor in how an occasion goes is how much notice we have. A note in the booking gives us weeks; a mention at check-in gives us hours. Neither is refused, but only one lets us hold the corner table, chill something in advance, and put you in the room with the view rather than the courtyard.

Say What You Do Not Want

Guests are comfortable telling us it is an anniversary and uncomfortable telling us they would hate rose petals. Both are useful. The most common note on our system reads something like celebrating, but please nothing public, and it produces a far better evening than a generic instruction to make it special.

Proposals Need a Plan B

We have arranged a number of these and the ones that go well all share a fallback: an indoor alternative if the terrace is wet, a second time slot if the flight is late, and one member of staff who knows the whole plan rather than four who each know a fragment. Give us a single point of contact and we will do the same.

The Room Is Part of It

If the occasion is the reason for the trip, the room is worth the upgrade in a way it usually is not. A corner suite with a bath by the window and a door onto the terrace does more for an evening than any amount of arrangement downstairs. It is also the one night where the rate difference genuinely disappears against the rest of the trip.

Restraint Over Theatre

Our default is understated: a hand-written card, something cold on ice, the table you asked about, and no announcement. If you want more than that, ask and we will arrange it properly. What we will not do is send a serenade to a couple who did not request one.

The Morning After Counts Too

Late checkout is the most requested and least mentioned part of an occasion stay. Ask when you book and we will hold it. Breakfast in the room until eleven, no housekeeping knock, and nowhere in particular to be. That is usually the part guests describe when they write to us afterwards.
